Wednesday's update

Today was a good day. Tanners spirits are still high. He is
still our strength pulling us all through. As I was stretching
his right ankle he said "ouch" and jerked his leg. Some are calling
it a reflex, but I am calling it a movement. The Doctors are amazed
with his pain tolerance and rapid progress. I talked to his
surgeon,he told me that there was no penetration from the bone
fragments to Tanners spine. This is good, no this is great!
They are moving him again tomorrow to The Spinal Rehab. Clinic on
the 2nd floor.
Words cannot express the gratitude our family has for all of your
thought and prayers. All of the many phone calls and visitors have
helped to lift Tanners spirits up. I see his spirits raise from the morning
when we all wake, wondering if this is just a bad nightmare to the
end of the day when we have had so many people calling, and visiting
until the nurses kick us all out.
Our love and prayers are with you all,
Stacie

Tanners Move from ICU

Today was a hard day, but ended up great. Tanner was able to be wheeled out
in his bed to the window to see the snow. This is the first time Tanner has seen
outside since Friday. He was able to have a shower and feel much better. But the
best news yet is he has been moved out of ICU. He know has a bigger room with
a big window. This will brighten his spirits even more. All of his tubes and wires
are off except for a iv in is foot. (great!) Even better the restrictions are moved from
only 2 people in his room. We had at least 15 to end the night. Tanner was in great
spirits and appreciates all of your support. I would like all of you to know that through
this all I have not heard Tanner complain about his situation or worry about what the
future has in store.
He is a fighter and has the determination that will get him where he will need to be!
Thanks again for your love and support! He or we could not do this without our amazing
family and friends!! We love you all!!
I am printing your words of encouragement and love for Tanner to read. Thank You!
Love, Stacie

Tanners Update

I just talked with Scott and he is doing well. He is feeling better and really feels he will mend just fine.
Tanner has not been able to visit with any of his doctors yet today which means that Scott and Stacie still are awaiting opinions from additional professionals. However, Scott was able to give me the following information:
1. So far, aside from a radical surgery that might become available, all the surgery that can be done for Tanner has been done and time will tell.
2. He has feeling in his buttocks and heels and there appeared to be an encouraging movement in his knee this morning. While the nurses are skeptical about the movement, the Godfrey family remains very positive.
3. The fact that he has feeling in his buttocks implies that the spinal column is "transmitting" all the way to the base of the column which is very good news. The key to recovery will be Tanner's ability to "re-train" his lower half to walk again and that comes down to a matter of time and physical therapy.
I will keep everyone posted as I hear any news. It is still very early on so the hope is that through the healing of the spinal column, he will be able to fully recover over time. Tanner still needs to meet with his doctors to see what they have in mind for the healing process.
Scott asked me to communicate his appreciation for the love, support, and prayers that have been offered on his and Tanners behalf. The whole family is extremely grateful.
